Here are a few quick updates to share:

– The initial results from the post-arrival surveillance test indicates that all tests have proven to be negative per Hawaii News Now.

– The new pre-travel testing program is still experiencing some issues. This Hawaii News Now story shows problems with a backlog in the Safe Travels program and problems with tests going missing.

– There’s new information regarding Kauai County’s voluntary post arrival testing that they’re urging visitors to take three days after arrival.

  • The cost of the voluntary test is at the visitor’s expense. They are offering a “gift”

A Michigander on the PGA Tour’s Hawaii swing: Excited, then depressed.

Watching PGA Tour golfers stroll down the undulated fairways of Hawaii golf courses always excites me; until it depresses me.

The first two tournaments of each PGA Tour season are played on the USA’s most recent state, Hawaii, a tropical paradise ripe with ocean and volcano views.

My initial reaction is always anticipation. The holiday season has concluded and a new year has sprung hope and expectation. I’ve been an avid PGA Tour fan for as long as I can remember, and I’m pretty nerdy about studying stats and results.

Hawaii vacation rentals down 37% in November 2020

In November 2020, the total monthly supply of statewide vacation rentals was 555,000 unit nights (-34.5%) and monthly demand was 175,400 unit nights (-69.9%), resulting in an average monthly unit occupancy of 31.6 percent (-37.0 percentage points).

In comparison, Hawaii’s hotels had an average occupancy rate of 22.1 percent in November 2020. It is important to note that unlike hotels, condominium hotels, timeshare resorts and vacation rental units are not necessarily available year-round or each day of the month and often accommodate a larger number of guests than traditional hotel rooms. * Today marks the start of the new travel restriction that requires travelers to have their negative test result before the departure time of their final leg of travel to Hawaii as we reported on Friday. The test must be taken within 72 hours of the final leg of departure by a testing partner approved by the state of Hawaii. If a traveler does not have their result prior to the departure of their final flight, the traveler must quarantine for 14 days even if a negative test result is received afterwards. * On November 16th, the governor issued a new emergency proclamation to clarify the statewide mask mandate. Scroll to  Exhibit J in the proclamation document to read the full details of the mask mandate. The crux of it is that face coverings must be worn over the nose and mouth when in public. There are some limited exceptions, so please read Exhibit J to understand the rules.

* Hawaii has added 11 new trusted testing partners for the pre-travel testing program. One of the most notable, new partners is Costco/AZOVA, which offers an observed at home test. See the
