Woodcock Lake Park camping plan expected next week

May 13—WOODCOCK TOWNSHIP — After being closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, camping at Woodcock Lake Park this year remains uncertain.

“We don’t have a firm answer yet,” Carol E. Vernon, spokeswoman for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District, said Wednesday. “We’re expecting to announce a plan by the middle of next week.”

The Corps of Engineers operates the park and recreation area at Woodcock Creek Lake.

Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend is the traditional camping season at the park’s 111-site campground, but the pandemic shut it down for all of 2020.

DNR: Michigan state park campgrounds now will open in June

LANSING, MICH. — In response to the continuing coronavirus crisis and Michigan’s updated stay-home executive order, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced new expected opening dates for its campgrounds and harbors.

State park campgrounds, overnight lodging and shelters are now set to open June 22. State forest campgrounds and DNR-operated harbors are set to open June 10. Dispersed camping on approved state-managed lands is not permitted until at least May 15.

Despite the season being seven weeks shorter due to the coronavirus pandemic, campsite bookings in 2020 were up eight per cent at Beavermead Park in Peterborough and the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area in 2020, Otonabee Conservation reports.

In its annual report, the conservation authority based in Peterborough describes 2020 as a “year of adaptation and resiliency” as conservation staff adjusted to COVID-19 protocols while maintaining the parks, monitoring flood activity in the Otonabee watershed and protecting drinking water sources.
